Extractions

We make every effort to preserve your natural teeth. However, extractions are necessary when decay has made the tooth nonrestorable or when you have an advanced periodontal disease. When a tooth is malformed, damaged, impacted or ingrown, different procedures are used, but all extractions are considered surgery. Depending on which tooth is removed, we can discuss options concerning replacements in the form of a dental implant or oral prosthetic.

FAQ

Do I need my tooth extracted?

We treatment plan a tooth for extraction based on a diagnosis. The diagnosis is determined after viewing x-rays, vitality testing, clinical examination, addressing signs and symptoms. Only then will we advise if a tooth should be removed. There is always the option to not remove a tooth, but that will have risks and those will be discussed on a case by case bases.

How long is the healing process?

It is best to have the rest of that day and the next planned for light to no activity. Healing happens fastest with rest.  You will be sent home with post op instructions and following these will give you the best results. For example: if you smoke or drink carbonated beverages, we will ask you to avoid these for 3-5 days.
